Pamela Geller, the director of “Stop Islamization of America” is up in arms about the New York Times refusing to run her anti-Islam ad (see a picture from the Daily Caller of the ad below). In this article it discusses who Pamela Geller is and what exactly her group is all about. The article includes an argument made by Geller to the New York Times referring to an anti-Catholicism ad that had previously been run. The New York Times refused to run the ad do to tense relations between the United States and ┬áthe Muslim community. Both Fox News & the Daily Caller ran stories questioning what they refer to as a “religious double-standard”. After reading this article I am led to believe it was written by someone who is more in favor of Pamela Geller’s view on the subject than that of the New York Times. The author includes many quotes from Geller directly, and other news sources as well. This article only quotes the New York Times through a letter written to Geller as to why her request was postponed. The New York Times said in the letter to Geller that they “made a decision to postpone publishing it in light of recent events in Afghanistan, including the Koran burning and the alleged killings of Afghani civilians by a member of the U.S. military.” The article did not once discuss anyone backing the decision of the New York Times. The biased opinion of this article is not really hidden about leaning in Geller’s direction to say the least. I think the New York Times have a very valid reason as to not want to post the ad at this time. The last thing we need right now is another scandal to shake the relations of the United States with the Muslim community.

  1. I thought this article was very interesting. I feel like the New York times has the write to choose to publish what it wants to publish, and has the write to refuse to publish anything it chooses as well. the New York times isn’t even refusing to publish this ad it is just waiting for a later date. I think the ad could be viewed as quite offensive to people who practice Islam. I do however understand the argument made by Pamela Geller regarding the fact t at the New York Times did print an anti Catholic ad and the Times should be equal in its views regarding religion.
